Muolaulani, a contemporary Hawaiian dance company showcasing hula at its highest art form, will perform at 3 p.m. today at the Kailua-Kona Public Library.

Artistic director and kumu hula Michael Pili Pang brings to the stage Hawaiian rituals, myths and legends with a contemporary flair, to tell the stories of Hawaii and its rich culture. Performers have been trained through the dance school Halau Hula Ka Noeau in the style called hula kui, a descriptive dance style that blends traditional hula with Western idioms. The 45-minute program is recommended for ages 5 and older. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawaii, Hawaii State Federal Credit Union, HEI Charitable Foundation, Meadow Gold Dairies, HMS Host, Hansen Distribution Group, Roberts Hawaii, Toshiba Business Solutions, and Aloha United Way, this cultural program is a production of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program. Additional funding is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the University of Hawaii.
